Everyone does it...The Invisible Game

Monday, October 20, 2008

What do you do when you run into someone in a busy place and you really don’t want to talk to them? I’m betting you’ve done what I’ve done, either sneak out of view as quickly as possible before they see you, or, if that’s too late to do, you play the ole invisible game. I figure if I don’t make eye contact, it doesn’t count, it doesn’t matter and it’s not rude either, well sort of, i.e., the invisible game!

I was at one of those giant outdoor flea markets this summer, when I ran into this guy that I once worked with and who was always interested in me, but whom I did my best, to give the cold shoulder too. He was a nice enough, but just not my type and he was married to a woman with 3 kids. Yeah one of those in the closet types on the down low. I can understand why some men still stay in the closet, but fooling a woman into marriage, just to hide your gay secret, is not someone I want much to do with....anyways that’s another post.

So there I was at the flea market browsing around when I looked up and saw him. Oh good he doesn’t see me, but I’m in the middle of nowhere to hide, oh oh. So I just when into the invisible game mode, you know, when you do everything possible not too look in someone’s direction that your avoiding. So here I am staring at some vendor’s table full of who knows what junk, trying to look really interested in it, so I don’t have to look up and make eye contact with him.

But I don’t want to sneak off and leave the flea market; it’s a nice sunny hot day, geez I wish he would just leave. I mean please... please can’t he just go home? What oh what can I do now? Oh I know, pretend I’m really searching for something, that’s it, so when I “bump” into him I’ll ask him if he’s seen what I’ve been looking for all afternoon. Hmm....So just what am I looking for?

Cowboy hats, yeah that’s it, Cowboy hats...I’ll ask him where they are, knowing all too well I had passed them already, about 200 yards back in the opposite direction. Oh good... aha luck is with me... I now see that his wife is with him, looks like he’s playing the invisible game too, with me?...how rude!!!

So that’s what I did, a quick hello, then a story about how I’ve been searching all afternoon for some cowboy hats.

Cowboy hats? Yup, that’s what I came up with..... cowboy hats for my invisible game....I hate cowboy hats!!!!
